Take A Daytrip To Weippe Idaho!

Just 36 Beautiful Miles From Orofino

A Little History on Weippe Idaho:

Weippe is rich in history; the Nez Perce people (NiMiiPuu) lived off this land during the summer months, harvesting berries, camas roots, and hunting. It was at a location near what is now the townsite of Weippe that Lewis and Clark meet the Nez Perce Indians for the first time, on September 20, 1805. It was the first time encounter by the Nez Perce to interact with whites. The Nez Perce were the most helpful; they provided the expedition with food and directions, both being much needed and appreciated. Soon after the Pierce discovery, the gold rush, and fur traders along with the Homestead Act Weippe thrived. Weippe is On the Historic Gold Rush Byway and is one of the eight registered Lewis and Clark Trail landmarks in Idaho.

Deyo Reservoir & Campground:
Deyo Reservoir (Deyo Pond) in Clearwater County is 52.5 acres at an elevation of 3,021 feet above sea level. Boaters must observe the no-wake restriction on the reservoir. Access to the reservoir is allowed year round.
Nestled amid farms and timber, beautiful Deyo Reservoir provides a great family fishing experience. A maintained trail surrounding the entire reservoir features seven fishing docks and two large fishing peninsulas, making it easy to find a good place to fish. There is also a developed boat ramp, picnic shelter, swimming beach, benches, and two handicap-accessible docks. Rainbow trout are stocked heavily spring through fall— Largemouth Bass and Bluegill are also maintained.
On the East and West sides of the Reservoir campsites await. The West Campground provides 14 sites with electric and water hookups. The East Campground has 10 primitive sites. All 24 sites are minimum 60 feet length. Three pull through sites are 80 feet in length.
Deyo Reservoir is located about 4 miles west of Weippe, about one mile off of State Hwy 11. Watch for the Fish and Game access signs and turn south onto either Three-mile Rd or Four-mile Rd, depending on your direction of travel. From either road, turn in about half a mile onto Schmidt Mill Rd and proceed to the reservoir.
